Description

1985 Porsche 944 5 speed manual transmission. Guards’ red over black. I found this car several years ago in the shop of my Porsche 944 / 928 specialist. Back in the day he was a master Porsche mechanic working in the Boston Massachusetts area. When the dealership was sold, He went on his own and created a specialty with 80s and 90s water cooled Porsches. The Porsche had belonged to a gentleman that wanted to make a track car out of the automobile ran out of time and energy. I saw the car with a fresh motor about to be installed and thought this was a great car. After discussing it with one of my clients who was talking about his pending retirement and said he wanted to make a track car. And this is the car he chose. It’s an outstanding platform with no rust or corrosion or any structural issues whatsoever. In the process of getting the best car I could for him I want to one of my best friends who races in the Porsche Clubs 944 series for the last 30 years and got a list of what he had done to his track car. We put together an extensive list and started checking off the boxes. The list that follows is the work that has been performed to this automobile. 1. Removed and replaced the power steering rack with manual rack from a 1983 944. · Replaced inner and outer tie-rods. · Replaced steering shaft. · Replaced reck bushings. 2. Removed and replaced the transaxle with a limited slip transaxle out of a 944/951 Turbo S. · Opened Transaxle and inspected, all is as should be. · Replaced with OEM fluid. · Replaced shifter lever with short shift lever. · Replaced Shifter linkage arm. · Replaced shifter lever at transmission with short shifter lever. 3. Replace the clutch pressure plate, throw out bearing. 4. Install the shock tower brace with Racing Dynamics brace. 5. Brake system. · Rebuild all four calipers. · Replaced all brake hardware front and rear. · Replace all four soft brake lines, with stainless steel braded lined. · Replaced front and rear rotors. · Installed Hawk racing pads, front and rear. · Replaced front wheel bearings and seals. 6. High-pressure fuel lines. 7. Test pipe. 8. All fluids and filters have been changed. 9. The air-conditioning system was removed and boxed. 10. Exhaust header 11. Replaced front stabilizer bar OEM front. · Replaced retaining brackets for front swab bar bushings. · Replaced stabilizer bar bracket front. · Replaced sway bar drip links front. · Replace front outer front sway bar end link bushings front. · Replace front sway bar bushings. · Replace front sway bar link to rod. 12. Rear sway bar. · Replace rear sway bar bushing. Set. · Replace rear sway bar links. · Replace rear sway bar retaining bracket. 13. Replace rear camber eccentric bolt 14. We retained all the bits that were save able from this building. This knocked quite a bit off our list of things to modify or replace whatever is remaining with the suspension is OEM short of front coil over as that were on the car at time of purchase. For someone that wants to complete the car is a track car this is a proven formula run on a car that nearly always podium finishes and took 30 years to perfect. Or the other alternative is put the car back on the road as a high-performance 944 normally aspirated 944 with a nice very powerful motor! Nothing that’s been done to this car impedes this car from being a registered street vehicle that will pass inspection. The homework has been done on finding a suitable roll cage, fire suppression system and electrical kills system if the car were to be completed as a track car. As you may know the 944 was a beautifully balanced automobile that had great handling characteristics, and this price point is nearly the least expensive
